My Christmas memory that I suddenly memorized was the first Christmas we spent as a family in our current house. Our dream house. We bought this house in June, the day after the first anniversary of our oldest. So we could celebrate his first birthday in peace.
The next day we got the keys ..
The house is the edge of a pretty village overlooking the meadows and the Maas. From my window I see the cows playing in the pasture and on the other hand, the dike that winds through the landscape. We were instantly in love with the view.
But the house had some renovations that needed to be done. The kitchen was placed in 1969 and the bathroom, well what can I say, see for yourself at the picture, saying that enough?
For months we had made plans, but the day we open the door as the owner, we could finally start. Within an hour were the first walls down and since that time there are still many followed and built again. Always with a lot of help from our fathers and also my brother and brother in law if necessary. We have already have made a lot of progress, but our house is a project which is still in operation. Many hours are put in the renovations and also to our large garden we have made plans for.
So I've already laid out a herb garden of 100 m2, where I harvest my fresh herbs that I can use in cooking (of course also for the blog). In the garden there are herbs like thyme, tarragon, rosemary, sage (and basil in the summer). I planted nine species of thyme, because did you know that not only vegetables are in season?
Our first Christmas in this house, I remember well. There was snow outside and everything was bare and it was getting dark. On the bare floor in the kitchen (rough concrete, because the stone floor still had to be made and I had to wear socks with Christmas because panties were getting holes when walking on that floor ?), I walked back and forth with all the dishes to the dining room, where we made it cozy. The Christmas tree was full of balls and lights, the Christmas music was on and the table was set beautifully. We did not have much in the room, it sounded very hollow, and yet we had everything. We enjoyed the salmon with champagne sauce and drank a glass of wine. Together with our families and of course my little family, at that time we were still with three.
Family, fun and togetherness. A very merry Christmas memory, and I wish you those memories to! A Merry Christmas with beautiful memories! A cheerful and fun Christmas!
