Today is Friday again and together with our online bookclub Cook the book Friday, I made a recipe from Dorie Greenspans new book: The way I cook. This time a recipe with brussels sprouts. And although the kids are already a lot older, they have never developed a joy for eating Brussels sprouts (except for the sprout stew that has been a favorite here for years).
But a recipe from Dorie is always worth trying out, so I went into the kitchen again and this time flavored the sprouts with bacon, mustard and maple syrup. I think everything will taste great with these ingredients and that turned out to be the case. For me then. The kids could live with it being eaten for once, but they really do not like it (yet).
Another missed opportunity (for them).
And then the hardest part: the photo. It gets dark here so early that my camera just refused to take another picture. I thought it was me, so I got my husband to try it, but there was nothing more to do then this shot. Not the most beautiful picture, but still it was a tasty dish.

This photo is absolutely beautiful!!! And this was a tasty dish!
Thank you!
Looks great!
That looks so delicious. I loved the maple syrup and mustard on the sprouts, gave it that little bit of special.
Well… more for you, Andrea! Maybe they will come around in a few years. I couldn’t stand Brussels sprouts as a kid but now I love them.
Your photo looks great! The dish is delicious. Love the flavours of the mustard and honey, with balsamic vinegar! Yum!
What a beautiful photo with all the color contrast! Glad you all loved it and we did too!
what?? what’s wrong with your photo! Nothing, since it is gorgeous! It turned out lovely!
I am with you on trying to take photos when it is so dark out already! If only I had the time to be able to take pictures in the day time….but instead I ended up cooking this as my dinner and then snapping the photo! It is what it is! Either way, a delicious dish! 🙂
I agree with everyone, the picture is perfect! And a delicious dish!
That’s a gorgeous photo! It’s too bad that your kids aren’t into Brussels sprouts yet, but at least that means delicious leftovers for you. 🙂
Hi Teresa, You’re absolutely right, it meant I had even more! Thanks!
Thanks, And it was a delicious dish for sure!
Thank you, I’m always very critical on my photo’s, but I’m glad you liked it and I know the result is better with more light. I also loved the dish and I’ve read all the other comments and it’s a winner for sure!
Thank you, it sure was a great dish!
Yes this dish was really delicious. I loved the glaze.
I actually love that photo! And I’m so glad you enjoyed these. Coming from a large family, it’s sometimes OK if others don’t like something – more for me!!!
Thank you and you’re right, I’ve got more of the brussels sprouts for me.
Indeed, you’re so right. And I just love Brussels sprouts so it wasn’t really that bad…
Thank you, I agree the mustard and maple glaze were just so delicious!
Thank you!
Gorgeous photo and recipe results ! And I agree with everyone else about the “more for you” theme 🙂 This was a fun new way to prepare them for me and we enjoyed the maple syrup addition. I typically roast and use bacon but, add pine nuts at the end. So a lovely change. I must say you have me very curious about your sprouts stew- sounds intriguing !!
It’s plenty of light. Some day your kids will come around. The bitter flavor of Brussels sprouts is sometimes an acquired taste. Luckily the maple syrup and bacon helped!
I have the greatest sympathy for your kids. Brussels Sprouts are difficult to like. They just are. I needed to be an adult before I became a fan. At least they tried them which is more than I did or that my girls did. I happen to like your photo. Those sprouts just pop out from the screen. Nice job.
