Soak the raisins overnight in 4 tablespoons of orange juice.
The next day: Mix the raisins with the honey, walnuts, and gingerbread spices.
Preheat the oven to 355 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
Peel the apple and core them.
Brush the apples with the remaining orange juice.
Put them in the baking dish, side to side.
Fill the apples with the raisin mixture.
Add a little butter on top.
Pour water into the baking dish (about ½ inch (1 cm) in height) and put the baking dish in the oven.
After done get the dish out of the oven and place each apple on a plate.
Pour the remaining sauce (add a small amount of water or milk if it became too dry) around the apples.
Brush the orange juice on the outside of the apple. It gives a delicious flavor and makes sure the apple won't brown.
If you haven't got a lot of time, soak the raisins for 10 minutes in hot water.
The butter you'll place on the top will melt and caramelizes the outside of the apple.
The apples are boiled in a small amount of water. The juices of the apple and spices inside will combine with the water and gives a delicious sauce, which you can serve with the filled and baked apples.
Substitute the butter with plant-based margarine for a vegan and lactose-free dessert.
Raisins can be substituted with currants, cranberries, or small cubes of dried apricots.
Serve these filled and baked apples with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. A great combination.
