Ingredients
2pounds fresh ham
⅔cup maple syrup
½cup dark brown sugar
3tablespoonsDijon mustard
1 orange zest
½oz.fresh rosemaryneedles removed and finely chopped.
1teaspoonground black pepper
Ingredients you need per step are listed below the step in Italic
Instructions
Line the inside of the slow cooker with aluminum foil to create a container.
Put the ham in there.
2 pounds fresh ham
Mix the maple syrup, brown sugar, mustard, orange zest, rosemary, and pepper in a bowl.
⅔ cup maple syrup, ½ cup dark brown sugar, 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 orange zest, ½ oz. fresh rosemary, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Brush the ham with the marinade. Then, pour the rest over and around the meat.
Turn the slow cooker on to low heat. Let the fresh ham stew for 2 hours. Then, check the core temperature in the thickest part of the meat with a meat thermometer. If it doesn't read 140 °F (ca. 60 °C) yet, leave the meat in the slow cooker for another 15 minutes and check again.
When the meat is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and place it on your serving platter.
Brush with the glaze that is left in the crockpot and sprinkle with rosemary.
Cut into thin slices and serve immediately.
NOTES
1. Temperature—For a 2-pound ham, you need about 2 to 3 hours to reach a core temperature of 140 °F (ca. 60 °C). A large ham of 8 pounds (3.63 kg) will take about 8 hours to cook on a low setting.2. Check! Always check in advance whether the ham will fit in the slow cooker. The lid must still be able to close!3. Leftovers? These ideas are delicious for them the next day:
Thinly sliced on a sandwich.
Cut into small pieces for soup or a main course salad.
As a pizza topping.
4. Larger portion? With almost all recipes, you can then press the 2 × button, but not with a slow cooker recipe. If you double the weight in meat, add ¼ - ⅓ cup (50 to 100 ml) of extra liquid.5. StorageLet the meat cool to room temperature before storing it.
Fridge—Pack the meat in an airtight container. This way, it stays good in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Frozen—Wrap the ham in plastic wrap and then in a freezer box. Freeze and store for up to 3 months.
Warming up—Preheat the oven to 285 °F (ca. 141 °C) and heat the meat to a core temperature of 120 °F (ca. 49 °C).
6. The nutritional value shown is per person, assuming that the ham on the bone is made from the slow cooker with Maple glaze for four people. The values are too high because it assumes all glaze is used (which is not true).
