Hi!
How nice that you visit my site. I'm Andréa and I'm the recipe writer, food photographer, blogger, and videographer of By Andrea Janssen. And I live in the South of the Netherlands.
My passion is cooking, eating, and entertaining. I love good food and World kitchens form anywhere are my favorites. You can even wake me up for good food (and that's a big deal I tell you).
The recipes which you find on this blog are the way I like them to be myself: easy, fast, with a twist, and fresh.
They're dishes that everybody enjoys. Every day and every moment. The time is not important, a freshly prepared homemade meal with your family, a dinner party with your family, or a cocktail party with delicious appetizers.
The joy is in the doing!
Do things you love and live a wonderful life. With beautiful moments and delicious food. On my blog, you can learn how you can easily prepare the most delicious recipes. My cooking keywords are fast, creative, easy, and fresh.
Easy and fast recipes for those busy weeknights, when you want to prepare a nice meal in less time and want to stay within your budget. Therefore I use ingredients that are readily available (or I give you some alternatives that will give you the great flavor you expect your meals to be.
Creative recipes because I love recipes with a twist. And I don't mind making an extensive recipe a bit easier too if I can, too.
Fresh, I don't use store-bought sauces or canned soup. Because it just tastes so much better making it fresh (and did I remind you that it costs a lot less when preparing it yourself). And because I know we all are very busy, I'll keep it as easy as possible.

The things you won't find on my blog
- Trends, at least not all of them (read most of them). I share the recipes I really like to eat. So you don't find carrot wraps or a zucchini crust pizza.
- I want my food to be of great flavor, so I don't use diet substitutions because I want to reduce calories or get my recipes in a particular diet food category. If it does fall into a diet, it's accidentally.
- The food in the photos is the same food we eat. Yes, I can apply some extra herbs for the sake of the beautiful picture, but we can (and usually will) eat these meals ourselves. And if they don't get a thumb up from my critic children and husband, you won't see it back on the blog.
About me…
I'm born in the South of the Netherlands. And I've traveled around the world. I've seen a good part of Europe, America, and in the Middle East.
I once, years ago, worked in a big company where I worked as a chemist and later as an Environmental Engineer. And though I liked it, my true passion lies in food, and I'm grateful that I've made it my work.
When I grew up, I lived in a town where there were plenty of world kitchen influences. Back at home, my mother cooked mainly traditional Dutch food. Stews, apple pie, and rich split pea soup (and believe me that's the best soup you've ever tasted) we're quite common at our table.
Another influence was my granny. She taught me to use good food. She didn't like margarine, but only used real butter. Better take a bit, then take a substitute. And my family inspired me to write a cookbook with the title: Kookboek van Brabant. A Dutch cookbook from the province of Brabant.
My neighbors were Turkish and later on, Indonesian. I can tell you that the flavors that surrounded me every day were so great! As was the taste! It helped me to truly enjoy those kitchens when I was still really small.
The recipes on my blog are the recipes from my past, from the traveling I did, and anything I've come to enjoy. I'm always watching cooking programs and reading books and trying to learn new flavors and techniques. And when I master them, I'm surely going to share them with you!
I share great recipes, with easy ingredients that are widely available. From Dutch cuisine to world kitchen, from classics too entertaining. Great recipes which are so delicious, easy, and simple to prepare.
And of course, cooking and baking, alone, together with your children or family is super fun. I wish you a lot of cooking fun! - Andréa
