Food Allergy Disclaimer
Hi, I'm Andréa - I'm a recipe developer and food blogger, not a doctor, dietitian, allergist, or any other kind of medical professional. Everything you read here, including allergen information, is meant as general guidance, not medical advice.
Food allergies are personal, and what's safe for one person may not be safe for another. So please make it a habit to check every ingredient, product, substitution, and preparation method yourself before cooking - and if you're ever unsure, check with a qualified medical professional first. Better safe than sorry!
The major allergens
My recipes may contain, or come into contact with, common food allergens.
In the United States, the nine major allergens are: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame.
In the European Union, there are 14 allergens that must be declared on food products: cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soybeans, milk, tree nuts, celery, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, lupin, and molluscs.
Think of the allergen info in my recipes as a helpful pointer, not a guarantee. It's always worth double-checking yourself.
A note on cross-contact
I develop and test every recipe in my own home kitchen, where I regularly use common allergens like gluten-containing grains, nuts, peanuts, dairy, eggs, soy, and sesame. I don't have separate allergen-free equipment or prep areas. So even if a recipe doesn't list a particular allergen as an ingredient, it may still not be safe for someone with a severe or life-threatening allergy.
Always check the label
Ingredients, packaging, and manufacturing processes can change without notice - and even different brands of the same product can vary in what they contain. So please check the current packaging and allergen statement every time you buy a product, even one you've used safely before.
Swapping ingredients? Check again
If you change an ingredient, try another brand, or use one of my suggested substitutions, the allergen content of the recipe can change too. Always check any replacement product on its own.
By cooking from my recipes, you're agreeing to take responsibility for checking that the ingredients and methods work for you and the people you're cooking for. Thank you, and happy cooking! 🍳
