Instructions
Make the Ginger Tea
Heat the water until it boils.
1 cup water
Remove from the heat and add the ginger slices and cinnamon stick.
2 inches fresh ginger, 1 cinnamon stick
Let it sit for 20 minutes at room temperature.
Strain the tea and place it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to cool.
Prepare the Cocktail
In a shaker, add ice cubes, lemon pieces, mint leaves, confectioners' sugar, peppercorns, and 2 tablespoons of the cooled ginger tea.
2 oz ice cubes, ½ lemon, 5 leaves fresh mint leaves, 2 tablespoons confectioners sugar, 2 black peppercorn, 2 tablespoons ginger tea
Pour in the rum.
3 tablespoons rum
Close the shaker with a strainer and lid, then shake for 1 minute.
Strain the Caipirinha into a glass.
Garnish with extra ice cubes (optional), lemon slices, and mint leaves.
NOTES
1. More Spice? Add a pinch of ground ginger to intensify the heat.2. Non-Alcoholic Version? Replace the rum with sparkling water or ginger beer for a refreshing mocktail.3. Can I use ground ginger instead of fresh ginger tea? Fresh ginger gives the best flavor, but you can use ½ teaspoon of ground ginger mixed with warm water as a substitute.4. Storage
Ginger tea can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Do not store a mixed Caipirinha, as the fresh mint and lemon will lose their freshness.
For a party prep hack, pre-mix the tea, sugar, and rum in a pitcher and add mint and ice just before serving!
