What do you need for Honey Ginger Soy Baked Chicken?
To prepare this Baked Honey Ginger Chicken, you need the following ingredients. You can find the correct amounts in the recipe card at the bottom of the blog:
Ingredients Chicken and Marinade
- Oil - Use vegetable oil, such as sunflower, avocado, or olive oil, for the marinade.
- Sea Salt - Sprinkle the chicken with sea salt for even more flavor. Coarse sea salt is super tasty.
- Garlic - Extra flavor. Raw garlic is spicy, slightly sweet, and aromatic.
- Ginger - Ginger is spicy, sweet, fresh, and spicy at the same time. It is often used in Asian cuisine. Use fresh ginger root. If you can't gain weight on organic ginger, remove the skin with a vegetable peeler.
- Chicken breasts - For this recipe, I used chicken breasts. But chicken breast fillets or boneless chicken thighs are, of course, also possible.
Ingredients Ginger Honey Sauce
- Soy sauce - Use Japanese or light soy sauce (available at the Asian supermarket). These are salty soy sauces.
- Honey - Provides a slightly spicy sweetness.
- Ginger syrup - For a sweet taste to dishes and is delicious in sauces (and dressings). It is a bit softer and sweeter compared to fresh ginger.
- Orange juice - Gives a fruity, fresh citrus flavor to the sauce.

- Pour the delicious sauce with honey and ginger on top of the chicken and return the baking dish to the oven. Bake for another 10 minutes until golden brown.
Delicious with: white rice or brown rice and vegetables. With this great recipe, steamed broccoli, green beans, or a delightful salad are my favorite vegetables.
Garnish with sesame seeds and finely chopped spring onions (green onions or scallions).
Tips, Substitutions, and Variations
- Also delicious, add pineapple and fry it with the chicken.
- Put some oil in the pan and briefly fry some cashew nuts. Sprinkle the honey ginger chicken with the nuts.
- Extra vegetables? Add some pepper strips to the chicken with sauce and let it roast in the oven.
- Spicy: add a tablespoon of sweet chili sauce to the ginger honey sauce.
- Drizzle with sesame oil for an intense flavor.
Ginger often stays good for a week at room temperature before it softens. It will keep longer in the refrigerator, up to three weeks. But if you freeze it, you can keep it for up to six months. TIP: Peel the ginger and cut it into 0.5-inch (1 cm) slices before freezing. This way, you always have a portion of ginger on hand.
