Ingredients needed for this recipe
The ingredients you need to bake these crunchy Brussels sprouts with bacon and pecans (Bourbon glazed).
- Brussels sprouts: the most important ingredient of this recipe. And as always the veggies are most delicious in season. So this is a real winter recipe.
- Butter: Because this recipe also contains bacon and sea salt, use the unsalted version.
- Brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and Sea salt: for flavoring the Bourbon glaze.
- Bourbon: use a malt Bourbon for the best result
- Bacon: Salty and a perfect counterpart of the sweet Bourbon glaze
- Pecans: With there nutty flavor the pecans really finishes the recipe (and yes I really forgot to include them in this picture;-()
How do you prepare Brussels sprouts with bacon (and of course the Bourbon glaze)
An easy printable recipe can be found at the bottom of this blog.
Step 1: Clean the Brussels sprouts. Take a Brussels sprout and slice off the bottom. Then you can remove the outer leaves. If you see a brown spot cut it out. Repeat this for all the sprouts and put them in a colander. Rinse them.
Step 2: Cook the Brussels sprouts. Bring a pan with 2 inches of water to a boil. Add the Brussels sprouts and cook for 5 minutes. Drain them in a colander.
Step 3: Prepare the Bourbon glaze. Put butter, brown sugar, Bourbon, Cayenne, and Sea salt in a saucepan. Heat while stirring and bring it to a boil. Cook for about 2 minutes until the sugar is fully absorbed. Turn of the heat.
Step 4: Bake the bacon and Brussels sprouts. Bake the bacon in a frying pan without oil for 3 minutes. Add the Brussels sprouts and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Add the Bourbon glaze stir everything and simmer for 5 minutes. Sprinkle pecans on top and serve.
- The cleaning of the Brussels sprouts will make the most of the preparation time. But you can buy them already cleaned. That way this recipe will be even easier.
- Because you cook the Bourbon glaze the alcohol will evaporate and only the flavor will stick behind. But if you don't want to use alcohol substitute it with apple juice.
- Stir-fry the Brussels sprouts for 2 minutes before adding the Bourbon glaze. That way they will become crispy.
- You can't store these Brussels sprouts, so make sure you eat all your veggies (but with this recipe that won't be a problem ;-).
