Easy Slow Cooker Ham Stew with Spring Onions
The slow cooker is really my savior in busy times. In our family of five, we use it often, especially when we have little time. Sometimes for an Indonesian Slow cooker Daging Roedjak, Chinese Babi Pangang from the Slow cooker or delicious braised ribs with red wine from the slow cooker.
But today, it was on for this stew with ham steaks and pointed cabbage. The ham steaks became super soft, and the flavors were well absorbed. It's a great dish for colder days without much fuss.
So, do you have a busy day? Turn on your slow cooker in the morning, and a delicious meal is ready in the evening. This stew practically cooks itself, and who doesn't love that?
What do you need?
- Ham steaks: Are juicy and tender. Pork tenderloin or shoulder are also possible. If you prefer beef, use beef steaks and cook for 8 hours on low heat. Or choose chicken fillet for a lighter version.
- Wine: A good red wine such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. No wine? Use extra stock.
- Chinese cabbage: You can also use white cabbage or green cabbage.
Preparation
- Add salt, pepper, and flour to a bag, add the meat, and shake well.
- Place the meat in the slow cooker and add the onion, ginger, and garlic.
- Pour in the oil, red wine, diced tomatoes, sweet chili sauce, and beef stock.
- Divide the cabbage and spring onions over the meat and stir everything together. Put the slow cooker on low for 6 hours or high for 4 hours. And done!
