Bring sunshine to your plate with this super easy and tasty recipe: grilled peach bites with Serrano ham. The juicy peaches and salty ham go so well together that you’ll want more after every bite. Grilling the peaches brings out their natural sweetness and gives them a caramel-like flavor. This is the perfect snack for a party, a picnic, or a light summer starter.

BBQ Peach Skewers with Ham and Basil
On hot days, I walk into my garden and smell the peaches growing on my peach tree (yes, I’m lucky to have one!). That smell always makes me hungry. Sometimes, I eat them straight from the tree, but this peach and ham snack is one of my favorites. Over the years, I’ve tested different grilling times and types of ham to find the perfect balance. The result? A simple appetizer that you can prepare ahead of time, bringing the taste of summer to your table.
The salty ham and sweet basil are paired on the same skewer, ensuring every bite is full of flavor. Once you’ve tried it, you’ll want to make it again.
Serving Tip: These skewers are great for parties. Serve them with a puff pastry tart à la Soleil, spinach phyllo bites, and tea eggs. Your guests will love it!
My Tips for Perfect Grilled Peach Bites with Serrano Ham
I test each recipe several times. These summer skewers are all about simple steps that make a big difference:
- Choose ripe peaches: Ripe peaches are sweet and juicy, and they caramelize nicely on the grill. Can’t find fresh ones? Use canned peaches in juice (not syrup).
- Peel the peaches (optional): If the skin comes off easily, great. If not, score an X at the bottom, place the peach in boiling water for 10 seconds, then transfer it to ice water. The skin will come off easily. Cut into quarters, remove the pit, and then cut each quarter into chunks (approximately 2 x 2 cm).
- Peach swaps: You can use nectarines or plums as a substitute for peaches.
- Ham choice: Serrano ham is a Spanish-cured ham. It smells sweet, tastes salty and savory, and adds a deep flavor. You’ll find it in thin slices at the deli. You can also use Parma ham or Iberico ham.
- BBQ tip: You can also grill peach halves and serve them with torn ham and chopped basil for a summer starter.
- Extra sweet tip: Drizzle the peaches with a bit of honey before grilling for even more flavor.
