This Caramel Frappuccino recipe (Starbucks copycat) is great to make when the weather is hot and you want to enjoy it with a cool drink in your hand. It's refreshing, slightly sweet and so creamy. A dangerously delicious ice coffee topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce. What a treat!
Have you've ever been to Starbucks and tasted this iced coffee? Then you know why I wanted to share it on my blog with you.
Because a Starbucks Frappuccino has got a gentle flavor, really refreshing and creamy in one. And then the caramel topping. The big surprise.
Cold ice coffee or dessert
For me, it's a drink and dessert in one glass. And you can serve it as a refreshing drink or as a light dessert after dinner. And it's super easy to prepare! A great recipe.
- Ice cubes. Crunch the ice cubes in your blender or, if you can buy it, use crushed ice. Let the ice cubes defrost a bit (otherwise your blender might have a hard time).
- Ice cold coffee. A real Starbuck Frappuccino recipe makes use of a strongly brewed cup of coffee. You can use an espresso. Or use a double amount of coffee or pads in your machine. Or use instant coffee (which is also a bit stronger.)
- Milk: When you're making a Frappuccino take whole milk or cream. But if you want a more skinny version, you can use any kind of milk. And if you want to go lactose-free use soy milk (make sure you also take soy cream for your topping).
- Sugar: Sweetens the Frappuccino, together with the Caramel syrup.
- Cream: Whip it with 1 tablespoon sugar until it's stiff. Use it as a topping on your frappuccino. You can also use soy cream (for a lactose-free version).
- Caramel sauce: a Starbucks Frappuccino recipe contains caramel as an ingredient in your ice coffee, but also a caramel drizzle on top. You can prepare it yourself, like with this caramel sauce recipe, or you can buy it in the supermarket.
Step 1 Fill your blender. Put the ice cubes, coffee, milk, sugar, and caramel sauce in the blender.
Step 2: Blend the Frappuccino. Turn the blender on and leave it on until the ice cubes are crushed and it's got a foamy topping.
Step 3: Pour the Frappuccino in a glass. Pour it carefully and gently into the glass. You want to keep it as airy as possible. In the meanwhile beat the cream with the sugar until it's stiff.
Step 4: Spoon (or use a piping bag and pipe a swirl) the cream on top of the Frappuccino. Drizzle some caramel sauce on top.
- Are you a chocolate fan? This frappucino is also delicious with chocolate sauce instead of caramel sauce.
- You can make crushed ice in the blender, but you can also buy it already crushed.
- This Starbucks Frappuccino recipe is less thick than the ones you buy at Starbucks. It's got a more gelatin structure. You can add 1 teaspoon of Xantham gom or 1 tablespoon of instant vanilla powder to achieve the same result.
- If you want to make this Frappuccino as a dessert, replace the milk with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- A mocha Frappuccino is made by adding 3 tablespoons of cocoa to the coffee.
What is a Frappuccino?
According to Wikipedia a Frappuccino is a Portmanteau (a blend of two words) of "Frappe" which comes from the french "lait frappé" which is a milkshake with ice cream. And from the word cappuccino (an espresso coffee with frothed milk). And that's quite a good description for this ice-cold drink.
