Who doesn't want a quick meal that is also super tasty and well-liked by the whole family? Well, you've found it here. While it was cooking, the delicious smell made my children ask what I was making.
This recipe for sticky chicken with honey and kecap is perfect for a busy weeknight. Serve it with rice and vegetables; the whole house will smell delicious. The chicken pieces are covered in a thick kecap sauce, and the topping of spring onion and sesame seeds completes the dish. It's a perfect dish to quickly put something tasty on the table!
What do you Require?
- Chicken breast: Cut into cubes so that each piece of chicken is covered in the sauce. You can also use chicken thigh fillet; that is a bit juicier.
- Kecap manis: A sweet Indonesian soy sauce. It is dark in color and gives a delicious soy taste. If you don't have Kecap Manis at home, do you have light soy sauce, low sodium soy sauce, or dark soy sauce? Then add one tablespoon of honey and half a tablespoon of extra brown sugar to three tablespoons of soy sauce.
- Dark brown sugar: Helps caramelize the sauce.
- Chili sauce: Gives a subtle kick. If you want a bit more kick, add a bit of sambal or sriracha.
Preparation
- Combine the ketchup, sweet soy sauce, honey, sugar, mustard, chili sauce, rice vinegar, and ginger syrup in a bowl. Stir well until the sugar has dissolved and set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and fry briefly, about 30 seconds, until it smells nice. Add the chicken pieces and fry until brown for 6–8 minutes.
- Pour the sauce over the chicken and stir well.
- Let the chicken simmer on low heat while the sauce slowly thickens, about 10–15 minutes. Stir occasionally so that everything is well-mixed. Serve the sticky chicken on a platter and sprinkle with spring onion and sesame seeds. It's delicious with a salad, green beans, rice, or noodles!
