This red currant Caipirinha cocktail is one of the tastiest and simplest mixed drink recipes in the world!! With a zest from the lime, a light sweetness, and a good dash of vodka. And to give it an extra boost, I added some fresh red berries.
Why prepare this cocktail?
- Easy: 4 ingredients and some ice cubes. Shake and ready. Easy it is.
- Refreshing: by adding red currants and lime it's a refreshing cocktail.
- Can't go wrong: so little ingredients and steps. This recipe can't go wrong.
- Red currants: Red currants are very healthy. (Or doesn't that count for a cocktail recipe?)
- It looks pretty: Because you add the red currants the cocktail becomes beautiful pink. I just love that.
- A great taste: and of course the most important part: a terrific flavor. It's sweet and sour in on snip. A great cocktail for sunny weather.
Which ingredients do you need?
The following ingredients are needed for this red currant Caipirinha cocktail:
- Red currants: Red currants are fresh and slightly sweet. A nice flavor addition (and they give a beautiful color to this cocktail).
- Lime: One of the basic ingredients of a Caipirinha cocktail. It takes care of the sour flavor in this drink.
- Confectioner's sugar: for sweetening this cocktail. I use confectioner's sugar, so you'll be sure it dissolves.
- Cachaça or Vodka: the liqueur which flavors this cocktail. Cachaça is a traditional Brazilian liqueur. If you don't have it, you can substitute it with Vodka.
- Ice cubes: To cool the cocktail and shake it. The ice cubes cause the berries and lime to crush and release the flavors. Because you pour the cocktail through the sieve, the ice cubes remain in the shaker.
How to prepare this Red currant Caipirinha?
How do you prepare this cocktail? A video and a printable recipe can be found at the bottom of this blog.
Step 1: Fill the shaker with lime and ice cubes. Halve the lime and cut it into small parts. Put a handful of ice cubes and the lime parts in the shaker.
Step 2: Add the confectioner's sugar to the shaker. This gives, together with the lime, the sweet and sour flavor.
Step 3: add red currants and cachaça/vodka to the shaker.
Step 4: Shake it and drink. Put a sieve and the lid on top of the shaker and shake for a minute up and down. Pour the Caipirinha through the sieve into a glass. Add ice cubes if you like.
- A Caipirinha doesn't need an extra flavor, but if you want to, you can also use strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries instead of red currants.
- Take the red currants easily off the stems with a fork. Take the stems between the tines of a fork and put it upside down. The currants will loosen quite easily.
- Keep your hand on the lid while shaking, You don't want the cocktail splash on your walls.
- Pour the Caipirinha through a sieve into the glass. You don't want to thin it with ice, just cool it.
- A real Caipirinha uses Cachaça as a liqueur. But if you don't have that, you can also use Vodka or Rum.
- The red currants can be removed from the stems in the morning. But they're very fragile, so treat them with care. Store until use into the refrigerator.
- When you've made the Caipirinha, serve immediately and drink it. Don't let it stand to long, because it tastes the best when cool.
What's the difference between a Caipirinha and a Mojito?
The biggest difference: a Caipirinha originated from Brazil and a Mojito is a traditional Cuban recipe.
And the Mojito contains five ingredients: rum, cane sugar, lemon (or lime), mint, and sparkling water. A Caipirinha only contains 3 basic ingredients: Cachaça, sugar, and lime.
