Bloody Halloween Cosmopolitan Cocktail (Easy Recipe)
You know that moment right before guests ring the doorbell? Snacks half done, kids still arguing about costumes, someone looking for fake spiderwebs. That's exactly when this Halloween cosmopolitan saves the evening. A quick dip of your glasses in red currant jam, a roll through sugar and your "bloody" rim is done before anyone can shout "trick or treat."
Then you shake Passoa, Malibu and orange juice, pour it in and suddenly the kitchen feels like a Halloween bar. The drink looks dramatic, but the first sip is just tropical, sweet and smooth. It clinks nicely with a bowl of candy next to it, and nobody needs to know it took you less time than unwrapping a bag of sweets.

Why This Works
- Using red currant jam instead of syrup makes the sugar rim thicker and "bloody", perfect for Halloween.
- Passoa and Malibu bring passionfruit and coconut notes that taste like a mini holiday in a spooky glass.
- Only a few ingredients: just liqueurs, juice, jam and sugar. No long shopping list, no tricky techniques.
- Party-ready in minutes: You can make several rims in one go and shake the drinks as guests arrive.
- Easy to batch: Mix a larger amount of Passoa, Malibu and orange juice in a jug and pour into rimmed glasses all night.
- Kids around? There's a mocktail variant in the notes below.
What You Need for this Halloween Cosmopolitan Cocktail
The exact amounts are in the recipe card.

- Malibu: Coconut liqueur that gives a creamy, tropical base.
- Passoa: Passionfruit liqueur with a deep red color and fruity kick.
- Orange juice: Adds freshness and lightens the drink so it's not too heavy.
- Red currant jam: Used to wet the rim and create that thick "bloody" drip.
- Sugar: Sticks to the jam and gives a crunchy, sparkling edge to the glass.
When to Serve this Halloween Cosmopolitan
- Welcome drink at the door: hand everyone a spooky red cocktail as they walk in.
- Served in small glasses as 'blood shots': great for a toast or party game moment.
- At the bar while the kids carve pumpkins or sort their candy: you shake, they scoop.
- Late-night Halloween sip: when the kids are in bed and you finally sit down.
Top Tips
- Use a shallow plate, that makes it easier to dip the rim evenly into jam and sugar.
- Let the rim dry a bit. A few minutes of drying helps the sugar stick better and drip less.
- Chill the glass. Pop your glasses in the fridge for a colder, more refreshing cocktail.
- Add ice if you like. Shake the drink with ice for a colder, slightly diluted cocktail.
- Make rims ahead. You can prepare the sugar rims in the morning and just fill the glasses later.

Instructions
- Put the red currant jam on a small plate and the sugar on another plate. Dip the rim of the glass into the jam.2 tablespoons red currant jam, 2 tablespoons sugar
- Press the jam-coated rim into the sugar to coat it. Let the rim dry.
- Mix the Malibu, Passoa and orange juice.1⅓ tablespoon malibu, 1⅓ tablespoon passoa, ¼ cup orange juice
- Carefully pour the cocktail into the prepared glass without touching the rim.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
Yes. Replace Malibu and Passoa with coconut water and red fruit syrup and mix with orange juice for a kid-friendly version. 2. Do I have to use red currant jam?
No. Any red jelly or jam with a smooth texture works, as long as it’s not too lumpy. 3. What kind of glass should I use?
A martini or cocktail glass works well, but any glass with a clear rim will show off the bloody sugar edge. 4. Storage
- Fridge: The mixed drink (without ice) can be kept covered in the fridge for a few hours. Stir before pouring.
- Freezer: Not suitable for freezing.
- Serving: Prepare the sugar rims ahead if you like, then pour the cocktail into the glasses just before serving for the best look and flavor.
