This Halloween witch potion cocktail is creamy, purple and just a little bit dangerous in the best way. You shake Baileys, vodka and espresso, add a purple sugar rim and you've got a Halloween drink that looks like it came straight from a witch's cauldron.

Purple Halloween Witch Potion Cocktail (Easy Recipe)
October is that month where the calendar fills up fast: school events, pumpkin carving, costume hunts, and somewhere in between you still want a fun drink for the grown-ups. This witch potion cocktail is my "reward" when the last fake spider is hung and the pumpkin candles are finally lit. One quick sugar rim, a handful of ice, a good shake and you hear that soft rattle in the shaker that promises something good.
The first sip is silky and rich: Baileys and vodka with a strong coffee kick, all dressed up in deep purple. It looks dramatic on the table, especially with the colored sugar, but you don't need bar skills to pull it off. It's witchy in looks, cozy in flavor, and perfect when the kids are in bed and the snacks are mostly crumbs.
And are you looking for even more spooky cocktails? Try this: Halloween cocktail with Passoa, Halloween cosmopolitan with Passoa and Malibu and Blue Halloween cocktail with Tequila. And for the kids (and parents who want to stay alcohol free): serve these non-alcoholic spooky Halloween drink.
Why This Works
- Baileys, vodka and espresso make a creamy, coffee-forward cocktail that feels like dessert in a glass.
- Purple food coloring turns a cozy drink into a witchy potion without changing the flavor.
- A colored sugar rim makes the glass look party-ready with almost no effort.
- Just mix everything in a shaker with ice, shake and pour, that's it.
- Want it stronger, sweeter or less intense? A little more Baileys, vodka or coffee tweaks it to your taste.
When to Serve this Halloween Witch Potion?
- After trick-or-treat bedtime: when the kids are finally asleep and you can sit down.
- As a Halloween dessert drink: instead of (or next to) dessert, with some cookies and chocolates.
- Late-night party drinks: when the music is softer, the candles are still burning and you want a cozy sip.
- Small 'witch shots': serve in small glasses for a fun toast with your grown-up guests
What Do You Need?
The exact amounts are in the recipe card.
- Sugar: Used on the rim for a sweet, crunchy edge; color it purple if you like.
- Water: To wet the rim so the sugar sticks.
- Baileys: Creamy Irish cream that gives body and sweetness.
- Vodka: Adds a clean, strong kick to balance the Baileys.
- Espresso: Strong coffee that deepens the flavor and keeps it from being too sweet.
- Purple food coloring: Just a few drops turn the drink into witch potion.
- Ice cubes: Chill the cocktail and give it a smooth, slightly diluted texture.
Top Tips
- Hold the shaker lid: Keep one hand on the cap while shaking so the purple cocktail doesn't end up on the ceiling.
- Use cooled espresso: Let the espresso cool slightly so it doesn't melt the ice too fast.
- Add food coloring drop by drop until you get the shade of purple you like.
- Chill the glass: A cold glass keeps the cocktail cool and creamy longer.
- Neat sugar rim: Spin the glass gently in the sugar instead of pressing too hard.
