Do you sometimes find it challenging to get precisely right how much rice you have to prepare for dinner? This can be a real challenge here. Where the pan is scraped empty one time, the next time, there is more than enough to make another tasty meal. And then this quick recipe comes in handy (but of course, you can also cook a double amount in advance, which saves extra cooking time and energy).
By frying the rice, it also gets a creamy bite with a lot of flavor and a nice crunchy structure. This is very tasty when combined with egg, broccoli, and peas. By seasoning it with garlic, hoisin sauce, and soy sauce, you easily get a delicious masterpiece of taste. And you can put that delightful dish on the table within fifteen minutes! Try it yourself.

What do you need for Broccoli Fried Rice?
You require the following ingredients to prepare this Easy Broccoli and Egg Fried Rice. You can find the correct amounts in the recipe card at the bottom of the blog:
- Broccoli: This green vegetable has a mild cabbage flavor. Less intense compared to cauliflower. It is ideal for cooking bu, butt also to (stir) fry. You can use frozen broccoli, which is fine; you don't have to pre-cook it.
- Sesame oil: Dark brown roasted sesame oil with an intense sesame flavor.
- Garlic: An essential ingredient for flavoring. Indispensable in Eastern cuisine.
- Hoisin sauce: A viscous, dark Chinese sauce with a sweet-savory taste. It is made from fermented soybeans, garlic, and honey.
- Spring onion: Or scallion. Gives a fresh taste to the eggs with a bit of spice.
- Eggs: The protein part of this meal.
- Peas: These delicious fresh green vegetables have a sweet and crunchy taste. They are delicious raw or cooked. Use frozen peas or fresh peas. Fresh peas must be boiled for 5 minutes before adding; otherwise, they will not be cooked enough.
- Cooked rice: White rice, brown rice, pandan, or basmati rice are great for making fried rice. You need 1 ¼ - 1 ½ cups (200 to 250 grams) per person.
- Soy sauce: Use Japanese soy sauce or light soy sauce (available at the Asian supermarket). These are salty soy sauces.
How to prepare Fried Rice with Egg and Garlic Broccoli

- Heat some oil in a pan and stir-fry the garlic for thirty seconds. Add the cooked, drained broccoli and Hoisin sauce and stir-fry for two to three minutes. Turn off the heat and stir in the sesame oil. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside.
- Put some more oil in the pan and add the peas. Stir-fry for 3 minutes. Add the eggs and spring onions to the pan and add the rice. Stir with a wooden spatula to make it nice and loose.
- Add the broccoli and pour the soy sauce on top.
- Mix everything well and fry for 1-2 minutes until everything is hot. Serve immediately.
TIP: This fried rice is delicious served with spicy fried beef steak and a delightful Asian cucumber salad.
Tips, Substitutions, and Variations
- Ensure the rice you use for baking is already a day old, and keep it covered in the fridge. That makes it less sticky.
- Extra protein: If you want this as a main course, and you would like to add a little more protein, you can think of chicken cubes, shrimp, or tofu cubes.
- Vegetables: You can replace or supplement the broccoli and green peas with carrot, bell pepper, and corn cubes.
- Teriyaki: Replace the soy sauce with teriyaki sauce for a sweet and rich taste.
- Spicy: Do you like spicy food? Then add ½ teaspoon of red pepper flakes or mix in ½ teaspoon of sambal.

- Boil or steam your broccoli al dente in 4 to 5 minutes.1 small head broccoli
- Heat the oil in the pan and fry the garlic for 30 seconds.1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 2 cloves garlic
- Add the (drained) broccoli and hoisin sauce to the pan and stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes. Turn off the heat.2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
