The best burger recipes consist of a delicious juicy beef burger with a crispy crust on the outside and deliciously juicy and tender on the inside. This Caprese mozzarella burger combines all flavors into a delicious meal you will enjoy!
Flavor Explosion: Caprese Burger Recipe
A bun with a juicy beef burger. I can enjoy that from time to time. With sweet baked onions, a slice of Cheddar cheese, and crispy vegetables. And everything on a bun. The four basic elements: good meat, bun, cheese, and vegetables are in this burger.
This recipe contains all four ingredients. The Caprese Mozzarella burger has a juicy beef hamburger and a crispy bun. Creamy mozzarella cheese and tomato as a fresh vegetable. The result: a delicious Italian hamburger. It is one of my favorites because I love easy recipes for food with many flavors.
Caprese style: What is a caprese burger?
Insalata Caprese (Caprese salad) consists of tomato slices, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves. It is flavored with good olive oil, salt, and pepper. The salad contains all the colors of the Italian flag.
And with this Caprese Mozzarella burger, we used the tomato, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves as a topping instead of a salad side dish. And that's a great combination with the juicy burger.
What do you need for a Mozzarella burger recipe?
To prepare this Caprese Mozzarella burger, you require the following ingredients. You can find the correct amounts in the recipe card at the bottom of the blog:
- Red pesto: A pesto made of tomatoes, cheese, oil, and nuts. You can substitute the red pesto with the green pesto (made with basil instead of tomatoes).
- Mayonnaise: Creamy and a bit sweet. It's a delicious topping for this hamburger.
- Tomatoes: Choose the most flavorful tomatoes you can use, like Roma tomatoes.
- Mozzarella. The most delicious mozzarella is a cheese made of Italian Buffalo's milk. But you can substitute it with a Mozzarella cheese made with regular cow milk.
- Hamburger buns: Prepare your hamburger buns or buy them. Grill them for even more flavor!
- Hamburgers: The most important part of this Caprese Mozzarella burger recipe. Buy the best burger you can get. I always opt for beef burgers. Before you grill them, take them out of the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes. That way, they will grill evenly, and you get crispy outside and juicy and tender inside. Beef hamburgers can be eaten while medium-baked. Or prepare your hamburgers with ground beef, bread crumbs, eggs, and spices. You can vary to your taste.
- Basil: Caprese style isn't complete without basil. This delicious herb can be added full if you've got small leaves or can slice them finely. Sprinkle them on top of the pesto mayonnaise. You could use dried basil if you don't have fresh basil (but the fresh variant is the most delicious).
How to prepare Mozzarella Beef Burgers with Tomato Pesto
You can find a printable recipe with a step-by-step description at the bottom of this blog.
- Mix the red pesto with mayonnaise. Heat a grill pan until it's very hot. Halve the buns and bake the inside for 4 minutes until it's golden brown and crispy.
- Use a BBQ or grill, and make sure it's very hot. Take the hamburger from the refrigerator and put it at room temperature for 15 minutes. Put the burger in the hot barbecue and grill for 3 minutes on both sides. This way, you'll hamburger will be medium baked. Do you want your meat well done? Then grill for 5 minutes on both sides.
- Put the bottom of the bun in front of you and put the grilled hamburger on top. Cover it with two slices of mozzarella.
- Put two slices of tomato on top of the mozzarella. Then, add a spoonful (or two) of pesto mayonnaise. And sprinkle basil on top. Cover everything with the top of the bun. Repeat for all your Mozzarella pesto burgers.
Tips, Substitutions, and Variations
- Take your burgers fifteen minutes before you start grilling from the refrigerator and put them at room temperature. This way, they will bake more evenly. This prevents the outside of the burger from being done, but the inside is still raw.
- A burger made of beef can be eaten medium-done. Therefore, grill it for 3 minutes on both sides. If you want your hamburger full done, grill for 5 minutes on each side.
- Make sure the grill (pan) or BBQ is really hot. That way, the meat doesn't stick to the grill.
- Do you want a low-carbohydrate recipe? Then eat this Italian burger without the bun (and add some extra green salad for more flavor).
- You can substitute red pesto with green pesto. And if you don't have fresh basil, replace it with ½ teaspoon of dried basil.
- In need of more veggies? Cover the bottom of the bun with some arugula before you top it with the burger.
- TIP: Drizzle some balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze on the top for an extra flavor!
The ultimate trick for a great burger?
A simple trick is pressing your thumb in the middle of a hamburger (on one side). This might look strange, but it ensures the burger bakes more evenly and stays juicy.
When you don't push, and you start grilling, your burger might bulge in the middle. Because you want to grill it properly, push the burger in the middle down on the grill. Doing so, you lose juice (which gives that great flavor). By pressing your thumb in the center, the hole will slowly fill up during grilling, and you get a delicious, evenly baked, juicy burger.
